Strondium -90 and cesium 137 in atmospheric precipitation 1976

Description

The results of the measurements on 90Sr and 137Cs in precipitation are presented. The fallout of 90Sr in Stockholm during 1976 was found to be 0,08 mCi/km2. The presence of shortlived fission products in precipitation from October to December made the determination of 137Cs by direct γ-spectroscopy with a NaI crystal impossible during these months. The shortlived fission products such as 131I, 140Ba and 103Ru that were detected and identified came from a nuclear explosion in China on September 17th. (author)
