Objectives and main outcomes of the CABRI in-pile experimental programs for FBR safety

Description
In the CABRI in-pile test programs, experimental studies on FBR safety have been conducted for nearly 30 years under international collaboration with participants from France, Germany and others. From these programs, important outcomes were obtained, reflecting characteristics of the CABRI facility, such as clarification of Hypothetical Core Disruption Accident behavior and creation of experimental database which will contribute to future improvement of FBR fuel design. Through the participation in these programs, JNC significantly improved its capability in FBR safety evaluation, not only by acquisition of test data but also by technical collaboration with participants including simulation-model development. Presently, CABRI facility is under reconstruction towards LWR safety study while leaving the FBR safety field. In this report, objectives and main outcomes of these CABRI programs are described. Additionally, a view on the future usage of the existing in-pile test facility is presented. (author)
