Synthesis high hardness coatings from non-sized carbides of niobium, copper on hard alloy wood-cutting tools

Description

Coatings from nanosize crystallites of NbC and copper on hard alloy wood cutting tools with a sublayer of NbC0.7 were formed of vacuum-arc deposition when using two Nb and Cu cathode sources. Composite coatings with a relative content of 1116 atomic fractions of copper in them had an adherent strength of at least 150 N, the specific volumetric wear of the tool with such coatings decreased by a factor of 10.
