Articular scintiscanning and thermography as diagnostic aids in rheumatoid arthritis

Description

The two methods of articular scintiscanning and thermography are valuable diagnostic aids in chromical polyarthritis. Their value is not in the nice pictures obtained but in the possibility to make a quantitative statement on the degree of joint inflammation. At the moment, the expenditure in technics, equipment and time is relatively high. If the method of measurement were to become more simple, the clinician would be able to obtain new aspects to judge articular diseases and their prognosis. To those working in research, there is the future possibility that the effect of drugs may be observed directly in the joint or in the bone. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Beide Untersuchungsverfahren, die Gelenkszintigraphie und die Thermographie, stellen bezueglich der chronischen Polyarthritis wertvolle Hilfsmittel dar. Der Wert ist nicht in schoenen Uebersichtsbildern zu sehen, sondern im steigenden Bemuehen, eine quantitative Aussage ueber den Grad der Gelenkentzuendung zu machen. Augenblicklich sind dazu relativ grosse technische, apparative und zeitliche Aufwanede erforderlich. Fuer den Kliniker koennten sich, besonders bei weiterer technischer Vereinfachung der Messmethode, neue Aspekte in der Beurteilung der Gelenkerkrankung und deren Prognose ergeben. Fuer den Forscher zeichnen sich neue Gesichtspunkte in der Beurteilung von Arzneimittelwirkungen direkt am Gelenk bzw. am Knochen ab. (orig.)
