Description
Quarks and leptons are the smallest structures known. Three families of these fermions, each consisting of a charged lepton, a neutrino and two quarks with charges of -1/3 and +2/3 have been discovered. The first family is the electron family, the second is the muon family and the third is the tau lepton family. These three fermion families can only be distinguished by their masses; their charges and other quantum values for electroweak and color interactions are equal. Such a repetition can be an indication of the existence of a further sub-structure of the particles. 1 fig., 8 refs
