On indium isopropylate. Polymerism of alcoholates

  • 1. Moskovskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (USSR)

Description

In(OR)3 (R=i=Pr)(1) is prepared by the exchange reaction of InCl3 x 2ROH with NaOR in alcohol-benzene medium. The compounds 1 are stated to have different states of aggregation ( well formed needle-shaped crystals, polymeric powders, oily liquid ) depending on conditions of separation (nature of solvents and temperature). Their solubility in alcohol and benzene varies in a wide range (from dozens of per cents to zero). The solid compounds 1 are not melted, they are decomposed at approximately 150 deg C. The crystals 1 are essentially rendered amorphous under abrasion. Gas phase transitions do not take place even among liquid compounds (at 10sup(-5) mm Hg). Peculiarities of 1 physicochemical properties result from heterogeneity of its molecular composition (coordinated polymerism). The conductometric method was applied to state formation of bimetal alcoholate NaIn(OR)4(2) in the solution; Sn[In(OR)4]4(3) is prepared from the (2) by the exchange reaction with SnCl4. Both compounds are X-ray amorphous, non-volatile, soluble in alcohol and benzene, they are decomposed at 80 and 200 deg C respectively. It is suggested that hydrolysis of the solutions 1-3 should be used for preparation of oxide films and powders
