Description
This report describes the type testing of the NRPB/AERE film dosemeter for the measurement of individual dose equivalent, penetrating, Hp(10), over the photon energy range 4 MeV -7 MeV using the appropriate ISO reference radiations. Measurements were performed both with and without a 300 mm x 300 mm x 150 mm slab PMMA phantom. An algorithm is presented that enables the assessment of dose for the combined emulsion of the dosemeter using the apparent air kerma data beneath various filter areas of the dosemeter. This algorithm is identical for the photon energy range 20 keV - 1250 keV to that given in NRPB-R236, but with the inclusion of a multiplication factor F. Values of F are provided that enable the assessment of dose equivalent over the energy range 1.25 MeV - 7 MeV. Consideration is given to the effects of secondary electron equilibrium and mixed energy photon fields that are likely to be encountered in practical radiological protection. (Author)
