Description

The determination of average energy and fluence of neutrons from 44 GeV 12C + Cu (thick target) has been carried out at the synchrophasotron accelerator of Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna, USSR with CR-39 detectors. It is shown that the average energy is 15.8 +- 2.8 MeV and the fluence is (4.5 +- 0.3) x 109/cm2 at ∼ 60 cm from the target and ∼ 70 degree to 12 C beam when 6 x 101112C ions impinge on the target. This method can also be used to determine the angular distribution of neutrons from relativistic heavy ion interactions and the average neutron number per incident heavy ion or per interaction
