What is a solitary wave
Description
The exact solutions of classical nonlinear field equations which describe pulselike waves that are collisionally stable are known as solitary waves. The properties of these solutions are reviewed. Several of the classical equations which exhibit this type of solution are discussed. Examples of current uses in physics research are given for each field equation discussed
