Metabolism in Bunostomum trigonocephalum. 6
Description
Males, females and third-stage infective larvae (L3) of Bunostomum trigonocephalum, were able to synthesize several important classes of lipids and thus to exhibit functional lipid metabolism. Incorporation of the 14C-labelled acetate into lipids was relatively more than that from glucose in adults, whereas label from glucose was incorporated to a greater extent in L3. Though only a small portion of these precursors were utilised for non-polar lipid (NP) synthesis, it was the preferred substrate for polar lipid (P) synthesis; P/NP ratios being 1.9 (L3), 2.75 (male), and 3.76 (female) for acetate, and 5.57 (L3), 2.83 (male), and 2.43 (female) for glucose.
