Canadian Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor (CANDU)
- 1. Atomic Energy Commission of Syria, Damascus (Syrian Arab Republic)
Description
The Atomic Energy of Canada Limited designed the Canada Deuterium Uranium reactor to provide safe and reliable nuclear power. The Canada Deuterium Uranium reactor is a Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) that uses heavy water (Deuterium oxide- D2O) as moderator and coolant and natural uranium as its fuel. The Atomic Energy of Canada Limited was established in 1952 and it has been building nuclear reactors for over 50 years, delivering a wide variety of Canada Deuterium Uranium nuclear reactors such as: Canada Deuterium Uranium 6 and the Enhanced Canada Deuterium Uranium 6. In this article the characteristics of Canada Deuterium Uranium reactor will be reviewed. (author)
