Fibula strut grafts

Description

This paper evaluates the role of MR imaging in determining fibular graft viability and incorporation. Eighteen MR studies in 15 patients with nonvascular fibular grafts following corpectomy were evaluated, along with 21 MR studies in 13 patients with vascularized fibular grafts for AVN. Normal marrow signal was seen acutely in 12 of 15 vascularized grafts and persisted throughout follow-up. Three of 15 grafts showed marrow edema 1 week postoperatively, but follow-up studies showed return to normal marrow signal. Ten of 111 nonvascularized grafts images within 5 months of surgery also showed normal marrow signal
