Description

The influence of proton radiators on the fast neutron response of some luminescent detectors was studied. Detectors studied were: (i) thermoluminescent materials 6LiF, LiF, 7LiF, Al2O3, CaSo4:Dy, and Czechoslovak alumophosphate glass; and (ii) two types of photoluminescent glasses. All materials were used in compact form (sintered discs, glass cylinders, embedded in teflon etc.). It was observed that the enhancement of fast neutron response due to proton radiators increases with neutron energy and it is higher for thinner detectors of the same type. It was also shown that this enhancement also depends on the detector. It is substantially higher for thermoluminescent Al2O3 and lowest for photoluminescent glasses. Some conclusions concerning LET dependence of luminescent yields in the detectors studied are formulated. (author)
