Features of a radioactive liquid-fed ceramic melter system
Description
Pacific Northwest Laboratory has remotely installed a Pilot-Scale Radioactive Liquid-Fed Ceramic Melter (RLFCM) System for conversion of high-level liquid wastes to borosilicate glass in shielded manipulator cells located at Hanford, Washington. The Pilot-Scale RLFCM System consists of a RLFCM, canister handling turntable, glass-level detection system and supporting waste preparation, offgas treatment, and condensate treatment racks. The Pilot-Scale waste vitrification facilities, will be operated with radioactive wastes to test remote equipment features and process performance. Special devices were engineered to assist in remote installation, operation and maintenance of the equipment system. This paper discusses the remote features of this vitrification system. 11 figures
