Description

The thermal chemical effect in ion mixing of metal-metal systems was studied experimentally and through computer simulation. Sandwich systems of Cu/Ag/Cu, Cu/In/Cu and Cu/Sb/Cu were irradiated by 200 keV Kr ions at liquid nitrogen temperature at doses from 1 to 6 x 1015 cm-2. The experimental results reveal that the chemical driving force plays an important role in these systems. Taking into account the chemical driving force, a simple model of ion mixing has been developed using the Monte Carlo code TCIS-4. (author)
