Description
MOX fabrication and burning in LWRs has reached its industrial maturity. This success results, amongst others, from similarities of UO2 and PuO2 powders properties. Differences between UO2 and MOX are noticed, leading to better PCI resistance for MOX fuel rods owing to MOX lower creep strength, and leading also to slightly larger fission gas release resulting from different power history, radial power distribution and thermal conductivity compared to UO2
