New stoichiometric and structural data concerning the binary phases of the cesium-C60 fullerite system

  • 1. Nancy-1 Univ., 54 (France)

Description

It has been shown that in thermodynamical equilibrium conditions only two binary intercalation cesium-C60 phases exist: a face centred cubic CsC60 and a body centred cubic Cs6C60 phases. They are adjacent in the phase diagram; from that point of view cesium differs clearly from rubidium and potassium, which both exhibit richer binary phase diagrams. For these alkali metals indeed there are, between MC60 and M6C60, two other phases with chemical formulas M3C60 and M4C60. While Cs4C60 seems never to have been mentioned before, the Cs3C60 appears as quite a controversial topic. (authors). 7 refs., 5 figs
