THERMOS, district central heating nuclear reactors

Description
In order to expand the penetration of uranium in the national energy balance sheet, the C.E.A. has been studying nuclear reactors for several years now, that are capable of providing heat at favourable economic conditions. In this paper the THERMOS model is introduced. After showing the attraction of direct town heating by nuclear energy, the author describes the THERMOS project, defines the potential market, notably in France, and applies the lay-out study to the Grenoble Nuclear Study Centre site with district communal heating in mind. The economic aspects of the scheme are briefly mentioned

Afin d'elargir la penetration de l'uranium dans le bilan energetique national, le CEA etudie depuis plusieurs annees des reacteurs nucleaires susceptibles de delivrer de la chaleur a des conditions economiques avantageuses. On presente au cours de cet expose le modele THERMOS. Apres avoir montre l'interet du chauffage direct des villes par l'energie nucleaire l'auteur decrit le projet THERMOS, definit le marche potentiel, notamment en France et rapporte l'etude d'implantation sur le site du CEN de Grenoble, en vue d'un chauffage collectif urbain.
