Description
A spun-cast amorphous ribbon of material approximating the reported chemical composition of an intermetallic precipitate, Zr2Fe0.6Ni0.4, commonly found in Zircaloy-2 was oxidized at 573 K in dried oxygen. The atomic concentration of the various constituent elements as a function of depth into the oxide film was determined in a Scanning Auger Microscope and an explanation of the oxidation mechanism was proposed.
