Monte Carlo analysis of the SO(3)xSO(3) chiral model in two dimensions
Description
We discuss the phase structure of the SU(N)/ZnxSU(N)/Zn (adjoint) chiral models in two dimensions and the associated problem of the mass spectrum near the asymptotic freedom critical point. We argue that because of the non trivial topology this class of models undergoes a phase transition due to vortex condensation. A high statistics Monte Carlo analysis of the N=2 case confirms this scenario and suggests a second-order Ising-like transition for βsub(c)=2.4. (orig.)
