An inexpensive shaft-encoder for atmospheric Cerenkov telescope

Description
A simple shaft-encoding system for atmospheric Cerenkov telescopes is discussed which, apart from giving the hour angle with a resolution of 0.1deg and an accuracy of about 1 arc-min, also provides an audio-visual failure indication in case one or more of the telescope members move in a faulty manner.
