Radon monitoring for the study of fractured aquifers

  • 1. Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Montpellier (France). Lab. d'Hydrogeologie

Description

222Radon has been used as a natural tracer in hydrogeological studies. We first give some general considerations of the parameters which control the porewater concentration of 222Radon in fractured rocks and the assessment of their variability. We then present two experiments: the first one is achieved in a granitic zone to study the relations between alterites and the underlying fractured rocks, the second one is conducted in a karstic fractured aquifer to investigate the dynamics of the water circulations in function of the structure of the aquifer.
