New nuclear power plants in the Federal Republic of Germany 1987

The report about 'New Nuclear Power Plants' compiled annually by the editors of atw contains tabulated surveys and individual status reports on all nuclear power plants under construction and planned based on inquiries by the editors and on recent information. In addition, information is summarized about the operating results and the data of the plants in operation. There were two new nuclear generating units, which have started to generate electricity in 1986 (Muelheim-Kaerlich and Brokdorf). No new construction permit and no new start of construction of a nuclear power plant were recorded in 1986, nor was a contract for a new nuclear power plant awarded. If one takes the day of the first electricity generation as the criterion for commissioning, 21 nuclear generating units with an aggregate gross 19,957 MWe were in operation in the Federal Republic of Germany in late 1986 (and still are). Four units with an aggregate gross 4,312 MWe are under construction. The number of nuclear power plant projects is given in the atw report as nine light water reactor power plants with an aggregate approx. 12,106 MWe. Applications for construction permits have already been filed for all these projects. (orig./UA)
