The response of a CCD linear sensor to low energy x-rays

Description
The effect of temperature of CCD and the charge integration time to the dark output and X-ray responce were studied for the purpose of the application of CCD linear sensor to X-ray detector. An X-ray tube and 7 kinds of metal secondary target were used to generate monochromatic X-rays of 4.5 - 17.4 KeV. The responce to X-rays was measured by irradiating into CCD linear sensor without protection glasses. Dark output was dependent on the temperature of CCD and on the charge integration time. It increased linearly to the latter, and exponentially to the former. The gross CCD output was independent on temperature and increased in proportion to photon number. Thus confirmed were the applicability of CCD as an X-ray detector, and that the long charge integration time enables the detection of weak X-ray. CCD output was dependent on input X-ray energy, and the maximum sensibility was obtained at about 4 Kev. (author)
