ITER task: plant safety assessment. ITER subtask no.S81TD01/D71-02 (SEA 4-1). Fuelling and vacuum pumping systems event sequence analysis

  • 1. Ontario Hydro Nuclear, Toronto (Canada)

Description

The objective of the task is to perform a thorough and systematic assessment of the ITER Fueling and Vacuum Pumping systems design, to ensure that the risk associated with the operation of these systems is less than or commensurate with the risk associated with other areas of the plant. The hazard considered in the assessment was that associated with the handling of significant quantities of hydrogen isotopes. Both the conventional hazards (deflagration/detonation) and the radiative (tritium) hazard were considered. In addition, the ITER core damage frequency, relating to the fueling and torus vacuum pumping, was also examined. 11 refs., 4 tabs., 29 figs
