Energy spectrum measurement of fission neutrons for 235U and 238U fission induced by 0.6MeV and 7MeV neutrons

Description

The prompt fission neutron energy spectrum of 235U has been measured at an incident neutron energy of 0.60MeV using the sample and the fission chamber methods. For the two experiments, the spectrum has been measured at 90 deg using time of flight technique. The results obtained, are equivalent for both methods. The fission chamber technique has been used to give simultaneous measurements on 235U and 238U at an incident neutron energy of 7MeV. For all these measurements, the spectrum in the fission neutron energy interval from 1 to 10MeV has been least-square fitted with a maxwellian distribution

Abstract (French)

Le spectre en energie des neutrons prompts de fission a ete mesure pour la fission de 235U induite par des neutrons de 0,6MeV par deux methodes differentes, la methode du diffuseur et la methode de la chambre a fission. Dans les deux cas, les spectres ont ete mesures par temps de vol a un angle de 90 deg par rapport a la direction des neutrons incidents. Les deux methodes donnent des resultats equivalents. La technique de la chambre a fission a d'autre part ete utilisee pour effectuer des mesures simultanees sur 235U et 238U a une energie de neutrons incidents de 7MeV. Pour toutes ces mesures, la partie du spectre des neutrons de fission comprise entre 1 et 10MeV est bien representee par une loi de Maxwell
