Comparison and review of CR-39 and DOSIRAD LR-115 in terms of indoor radon measurements in Ghana

Radon-222 exposure indoors has become problematic worldwide due to the fact that it accounts for approximately 60% of the total natural background radiation. Radon concentration measurements are routinely performed and different laboratories around the world have developed several types of radon radiation detectors. In Ghana, two type of film detectors are commonly use, CR-39 and LR-115 detectors. In the present study these detectors were compared in terms of their sensitivities, advantage, disadvantages and methodologies. The detectors can be used for both short and long term measurements but the sensitivity of LR-115 is higher as compared with CR-39 which can be compensated by long-term exposure. Both detectors will be effective towards the national radon programme. (author)
