Internal conversion electrons from sup(188m)Ir decay

Description

Developing theoretic nuclear models for the transition region near A 190 involves further systematics of isomeric states of odd-odd iridium isotopes. One of such isomeric states has been produced in the sup(187)Re(α,3n)sup(188m) reaction using a pulsed beam of 38 MeV-particles. sup(187)Re metallic targets, 98.7% enriched and 0.74 and 2.27 mg/cm2 thick were irradiated. The electron spectrum of internal conversion was measured with a double iron-free beta-spectrometer of the 'orange' type. The spectra and intensities of line electrons are reported, as are the multipolarities and intensities of transitions. The accuracy of energy determinations is 0.3 keV for intense spectrum lines and 1 keV for weak electron lines. 16 electron lines have been detected in the decay spectrum of sup(188)Ir, each having the same half-life, T 1/2=3.8 +-0.2 mc. These lines have been attributed to gamma transitions with the energies of 41.4, 54.7, 65.1, 97, 115, 138.3, 142.5, 149.7 and 215 keV. The decay scheme of the isomeric state of sup(188)Ir has not been established
