Exchange effects on the luminescence of the quasi two dimensional antiferromagnet (Csub(n)Hsub(2n+1)NH3)2MnCl4 (n=1,2,3)

Temperature-dependence of luminescence spectra are measured of the Heisenberg-type two dimensional antiferromagnets: (Csub(n)Hsub(2n + 1NH3)2MnCl4 with n = 1, 2, and 3 in the temperature range of 4-300 K. The marked changes of the band position, halfwidth, intensity and lifetime are observed near the Neel temperature. The results are discussed in terms of the magnetoelastic effect due to exchange interaction. The intralayer exchange interaction J and the Neel temperature derived from the luminescence measurements are in accordance with the magnetic ordering of nearly isolated layers. (orig.)
