Charge-exchange formation of Ar- in D--on-Ar collisions

Description
The charge-exchange formation of the 2P3/2, 1/sub /2/ states of Ar- formed by D--on-Ar collisions is measured. The autodetached electrons ejected from the Ar- states are observed at 125.3degree from the beam direction. These results are compared with similar measurements made with an H- ion beam. A dip in the cross section occurs at 1.5 keV beam energy for the H- and at 3 keV for the D-. As a function of beam velocity the exchange cross sections are the same up to the velocity corresponding to 2-keV H- (4-keV D-). At higher velocities the D- results are greater
