Description

Semiempirical method for the efficiency ε calculation of bulky cylindrical samples via effective solid angles Ω written as the computer code EXTSANGLE is applied in this work to two samples: a reference solution and a geological one of well known composition. The impact of the uncertainties in the input data (detector inner dimensions and source-to-detector distance) on the calculated Ω values is studied, as well as the errors made when determining the sample activities by this method. It is concluded that EXTSANGLE can be applied with a satisfactory accuracy to radioactivity measurements in various types of low activity (e.g. environmental) samples. (author)
