Description

Energy storage (electric and thermal storage) is a global industrial sector that is gaining in power and leading to numerous agreements between industrialists and research bodies. In France, this dynamic meets the 2020 political and social objectives set by the Grenelle de l'Environnement in addition to the 2050 'Factor 4' objectives It must enable the renewable energy- electrical and thermal energy - development objectives to be reached by integrating this increasing production into the French energy mix in a similar manner to that of rechargeable hybrid and electric vehicles, and finally, it must generate as much value as possible for the energy produced. This benefits from the significant technological progress made in the field of materials, electrochemical techniques (for batteries), power electronics and information and communication technology. Electrical energy storage involves, on the one hand, stationary systems - for dedicated sites which provide support to power grids and renewable energy production sites - and, on the other hand, embedded systems - small-scale storage means integrated into a mobile system, in particular within rechargeable hybrid and electric vehicles. Heat storage essentially involves stationary systems used in the building sector. Embedded heat storage and distribution systems are also studied within the scope of this road-map, produced with a panel of experts from research bodies and companies, including both storage system manufacturers and users. Content: 1 - Context and challenges; 2 - Subject area and geographic perimeter; 3 - International comparisons; 4 - Key parameters; 5 - Prospective visions; 6 - Obstacles; 7 - Research priorities; 8 - Experimental research platform and research demonstrator needs; 9 - Pre-industrialisation and initial marketing.
