Description
The step-like structure around 1 MeV in neutron-induced U-235 fission cross section is analyzed within a statistical theory. The key role in analysis plays the intrinsic state density w(U). The discrete character of quasi-particle excitations leads to step-like structure in w(U). Taking into account the collective excitations we were able to correlate the observed irregularity with the threshold behaviour of two quasi-particle state density at the outer U-236 saddle. Pairing gap and barrier parameters are consistent with the threshold. (orig.)
