The analyzing power Asub(y)(THETA) for 12C(n vector,nsub(0,1))12C in the neutron energy range from 6.8 to 17.3 MeV
Description
The analyzing power for the elastic and inelastic neutron scattering to the first excited state on 12C was measured at 21 energies from 6.8 to 17.3 MeV. The data from 8.9 to 14.9 MeV were together with very precise cross section data from the literature studied in the framework of the spherical optical model and the coupled channel formalism. The coupled channel analysis of the elastic and inelastic scattering on 12C in the framework of the rotator model yielded a good agreement between measured and calculated angular distributions. The determined quadrupole deformation parameter β2 = -0.67 agrees well with values from the literature. The existence of different qudrupole deformations for the central and spin-orbit components of the optical potential was studied. Large differences for the quadrupole deformations β2sup(c) and β2sup(so) were found at 8.9, 11.9, and 12.9 MeV. Especially at 8.9 MeV by this a great improvement of the fit to the data was reached. Die Analysierstaerke fuer die elastische und inelastische Neutronenstreuung zum ersten angeregten Zustand an 12C wurde bei 21 Energien von 6.8 bis 17.3 MeV gemessen. Die Daten von 8.9 bis 14.9 MeV wurden zusammen mit sehr genauen Wirkungsquerschnittsdaten aus der Literatur im Rahmen des sphaerischen optischen Modells und des Coupled-Channels-Formalismus untersucht. Die Coupled-Channel-Analyse der elastischen und inelastischen Streuung an 12C im Rahmen des Rotator-Modells liefert eine gute Uebereinstimmung zwischen gemessenen und gerechneten Winkelverteilungen. Der ermittelte Quadrupoldeformationsparameter β2 = -0.67 stimmt mit Werten aus der Literatur gut ueberein. Die Existenz von verschiedenen Quadrupoldeformationen fuer die Zentral- und die Spin-Bahn-Komponenten des optischen Potentials wurde untersucht. Starke Unterschiede fuer die Quadrupoldeformationen β2sup(c) und β2sup(so) wurden 8.9, 11.9 und 12.9 MeV gefunden. Vor allem bei 8.9 MeV wurde dadurch eine betraechtliche Verbesserung der Fits zu den Daten erreicht. (orig./HSI)
