Carbon-14 in the ocean. Chapter 3
Description
The major results for the knowledge processes achieved by means of 14C are summarized. First the notation and the 13C correction used for reporting 14C data are described. Major sections are devoted to air-sea exchange, residence times of CO2, the large-scale oceanic circulation as inferred from the distribution of radiocarbon, and to the natural and bomb-produced 14C in surface waters and the thermocline. The ocean's uptake of anthropogenic CO2 is discussed. Other sections are devoted to natural 14C variations, to semi-closed basins and to dating of marine materials.
