Pneumonitis following infradiaphragmatic irradiation in Hodgkin's disease

Description

A case is reported on radiation pneumonitis in the left costodiaphragmatic sinus 6 weeks following combined chemo- and radiotherapy of Hodgkin's disease. Thoracotomy was performed in order to exclude a pulmonal relapse of Hodgkin's disease. Thereby the diagnosis of radiation pneumonitis was histologically proven. The development of pneumonitis after irradiation of the spleen may occur and has to be considered in the differential diagnosis of pulmonal affections. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Das Auftreten einer radiogen bedingten Pneumonitis im linken dorsalen Zwerchfellwinkel 6 Wochen nach kombinierter Chemo- und Strahlentherapie eines Morbus Hodgkin wird beschrieben. Unter dem Verdacht eines pulmonalen Hodgkin-Rezidives erfolgte eine Thorakotomie, die den histologischen Nachweis der Pneumonitis ergab. Nach Bestrahlung der Milz stellt die Entwicklung einer basalen Strahlenpneumonitis eine moegliche Therapiefolge dar und sollte differentialdiagnostisch in Betracht gezogen werden. (orig.)
