WIROCO - A Fortran computer program for the calculation of radial and axial heat transfer, thermal radiation and radial thermal expansion in rotationally symmetrical systems using the relaxation method

The WIROCO FORTRAN computer program is used for thermodynamics calculations of rotationally symmetrical systems and, for this reason, lends itself particularly well to the application in thermal design of in-pile rigs. The program uses the relaxation method of thermodynamics to calculate steady state temperature fields, taking into account radial and axial heat conduction, heat radiation, and radial thermal expansion. The heat conduction and heat transfer numbers may be included in the calculation as temperature dependent quantities, just as the heat source densities, which are a function of the respective material. After some remarks about the relaxation theory a description is given of the structure of the WIROCO computer program, in particular in the light of variable dimensioning of the field parameters. The description of the input data is followed by an example indicating the calculation of the temperature field for an in-pile rig. (orig.)
