Ten times more wind energy - guaranteeing favourable conditions is a prerequisite

Description
This article discusses the goals set by the Swiss Federal Offices for Regional Planning and Energy and the Swiss Agency for the Environment, Forests and Landscape for the production of wind-generated power. This national wind-energy concept, which foresees the generation of 50 to 100 gigawatt-hours of electrical energy by the year 2010, is discussed and the importance of setting-up of favourable general conditions for the implementation of wind parks emphasised. Efforts being made in this direction are reviewed. The current situation regarding wind energy in Switzerland is discussed and new projects in the Jura hills and alpine mountain areas are commented on
