Powerful dynamic neutrino source with hard spectrum

  • 1. State Research Center Inst. of Theoretical and Experimental Physics, Moscow (Russian Federation)

Description

Powerful dynamic neutrino source with hard spectrum obtained via (n, γ)-activation of 7Li and subsequent β--decay (T1/2 = 0.84 s) of 8Li with emission of high-energy ν-tildee (up to 13 MeV) is discussed. In the dynamic system, lithium is pumped over in a closed cycle through a converter near the active zone of a reactor and further to a remote ν-tildee-detector. It is shown that due to a large growth of the hardness of total ν-tildee-spectrum the cross section of interaction with a deuteron can strongly increased both in the neutral (ν-tildee + d → n + p + ν-tildee) and in the charged (ν-tildee + d → n + n + e+) channel in comparison with these cross sections in the reactor ν-tildee-spectrum
