M stars in the north galactic polar region

Creators

Description

Some absolute proper motions of faint M stars in the region of the north galactic pole are reanalysed. The velocity distribution is in very good agreement with that obtained from space motions of very nearby M stars identified in brighter objective-prism surveys. Given this distribution, some support is advanced for a higher space density of M stars. The result, however, requires a redefinition of the local standard of rest in accord with the recently proposed outward motion of the currently adopted local standard of rest. (author)
