Description

The performance of the connected GSO (Gd2SiO5 : Ce) bar is investigated using p and π+ beam. Three types of GSO crystals with different amount of Ce-doping (1.5 mol%, 0.5 mol%) and cross section (1cm x 1cm, 2cm x 2cm) were prepared for this experiment. The two 20 cm long crystals were connected to form a 40 cm long bar. The position dependences of the energy resolution, pulse height and timing resolution were investigated. As the results, the best energy resolution was 1.5% (1σ) for the GSO bar consisting of the 0.5 mol% Ce-doped 2cm x 2cm x 20cm crystals for a 0.6 GeV/c proton beam. The best position resolution was 0.6 cm for the bar consisting of two 1.5 %mol Ce doped 1cm x 1cm x 20cm GSO crystals. (author)
