Design of a multibeam type IH-RFQ linac for low energy beam acceleration

  • 1. Tokyo Inst. of Technology, Research Laboratory for Nuclear Reactors, Tokyo (Japan)

Description

A multibeam Radio Frequency Quadruple (RFQ) linac with Interdigital H-mode (IH) structure has been developed for high intense heavy-ion beam acceleration. In order to accelerate high intensity ion beams, it is necessary to suppress a defocusing force by the space charge effect. The defocusing force of space charge effect is proportional to the beam current and the inverse square of the beam velocity. Therefore, multibeam acceleration is attractive scheme to suppress it in the low energy region. The electromagnetic field distribution and the beam dynamics were studied for prototype. We will discuss the configuration of the multibeam IH-RFQ linac and the results of these simulations. (author)
