After a brief survey of recent experimental limits on the nucleon lifetime and a presentation of five new experimental dedicated to nucleon decay, this paper describes the 1.5 kilotron fine grain flash chamber detector which will be installed in an underground laboratory in the Frejus tunnel near Modane, France
