Description
In the PETULA Tokamak, three series of discharges were run with successively tungsten, alumina and carbon limiters. The characteristics of the plasma in these three situations are presented and compared. It is found that the lowest oxygen impurity level and lowest effective ion charge were obtained with the alumina limiter. With this limiter the plasma energy confinement time is 50% higher than that found for the tungsten limiter. During a rather short period the machine was operated with a carbon limiter which led to very resistive discharges and the appearance of disruptive instabilities related to a plasma-limiter interaction. From a technological point of view the alumina limiter was appreciably damaged after about a thousand discharges whereas the carbon one appeared to perfectly withstand thermal stresses

Dans le Tokamak PETULA, trois series de decharges ont ete effectuees avec des limiteurs successivement en tungstene, en alumine et en carbone. Les caracteristiques du plasma dans ces trois situations sont presentees et comparees. Il en resulte que le taux de l'impurete oxygene et la charge effective ionique les plus faibles sont obtenus avec le limiteur en alumine. Le temps de confinement de l'energie du plasma est alors de 50% superieur a celui trouve dans le cas du limiteur en tungstene. Au cours de la plus breve periode de travail avec le limiteur en carbone les decharges ont ete tres resistives avec apparition d'instabilites disruptives liees a l'interaction plasma-limiteur. Sur le plan technologique le limiteur en alumine a ete assez fortement endommage par les chocs thermiques alors que celui en carbone s'est revele tres resistantFiles
