Identification of optimal drainage water storage locations in Ararat valley through hydrological network analysis

Description
Taking into account the problems and challenges in the field of water resources management in the Republic of Armenia, the effective use of the full potential of the country's water resources is one of the main priorities. The problem is especially severe in the Ararat valley, which is the most active agricultural region of the country and where about half of the population of the Republic of Armenia is concentrated. Utilizing water reuse potential is an important component of effective water resource management. The article presents the results of the identification of drainage water storage sites in the Ararat Valley based on the GIS analysis and remote sensing data. The selection of the optimal site was carried out as a result of combining the vector layers of the main rivers and canals obtained from the digital elevation model and satellite images, taking into account a number of natural and anthropogenic factors that create a possibility to direct the accumulated drainage water to the cultivated lands of the Vedi region
