The influence of hydrogen on the behaviour of metals

Description

The mechanical behaviour of metals and metallic alloys is significantly affected by the presence of hydrogen and, apart from the established hydrogen embrittlement of high strength steels and the hydride cracking of titanium and zirconium and their respective alloys, other forms of environmental-influenced fracture can be explained on the basis of hydrogen-induced phenomena. The solubility and diffusivity characteristics of metals are reviewed and the role of hydrogen in the stress-corrosion cracking and corrosion-fatigue fracture of some metals and metallic alloys is discussed
