Proposed for management and disposal of nuclear waste from nuclear power plants in Sweden from 1980
Description
The greatest hazards with radioactive waste management are connected with the transport. The hazards are of two kinds, hazards of accident and hazards of sabotage. By siting facilities for reprocessing, nuclear fuel fabrication and waste disposal at the same place and increase the cooling time at the nuclear power plant the above mentioned hazards may be minimized. The hazards of stealing of plutonium could be eliminated if reprocessing and fuel fabrication were done in a continous system. If the waste is fixed in a glasslike material with small solubility and is disposed very deep in a stable ground, the possibility that the waste will influence mankind in the future is very small. If the transuranic elements are recycled the time for disposal before the waste is harmless can be minimized from milions of years to 700 years. The above mentioned procedures will rize the cost for nuclear power with only 0.2-0.3 oere/kWh.(K.K.)
