The contributions of E S Fradkin to quantum field theory and statistics

The paper presents the contributions of E.S. Fradkin to Quantum field theory and statistics. The contributions have been published in more than 160 papers, of which the most important are discussed in the present paper under six basic headings. These headings are:- 1) functional and operator methods in quantum field theory, 2) approximate methods and quantum electrodynamics with an external field, 3) quantisation of dynamical systems with constraints, 4) works on vector gauge theory, gravity, supergravity and string theory, 5) functional methods in quantum statistical physics, and 6) dispersion relations and the method of Efimov and Fradkin for non-polynomial Lagrangians. Only works written after 1953 are considered. (U.K.)
