Study of natural circulation BWR with passive safety

  • 1. Nuclear Energy Group, Toshiba Corp., IEC, 8 Shinsugita-cho, Isogo-ku, Yokohama 235 (Japan)

Description

This paper summarizes the basic concept of a natural circulation BWR (TOSBWR-900P), pursuing the passive safety. The TOSBWR-900P has steam drums above the pressure vessel which enables the top-mounted gravity driven control rod device. The flow to the core is controlled by the valves equipped on the downcommer pipes. ECCS consists of high and low pressure accumulators, gravity driven cooling system and automatic depressurization system which satisfies no core uncovery against any design basis accident. The gravity driven containment spray water can flood the reactor pressure vessel completely. The long term decay heat removal is achieved by a natural circulation of sea water
