The Super-Phenix project

The initial work on French fast development, in the field of sodium-cooled breeder reactors, started at the Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique about 20 years ago. The basic theoretical and technological knowledge having been acquired, followed by confirmation of the principle with the experimental reactor Rapsodie and demonstration by the Phenix Power Station, the Super-Phenix project sets up the fast boiler of the Creys-Malville high-power prototype power station, with a capacity of 1200MWe. The options adopted for the boiler, while following the lines of Phenix, take into account the lay-out characterizing the commercial nuclear power stations of the EDF network. This power station will be set up on an industrial basis that will make use of all the experience acquired in France in the field of fast nuclear power stations
